It is hard to believe that Spring has arrived, at least according to the calendar with all the massive piles of snow that some of us still have in our front lawns. Hopefully, the weather will warm up and the plants will start peeking their head out from under the ground.
Thank you Jim for taking care of the March meeting for me. It was truly appreciated. Thank you also to all of you that inquired about my mother. It was very thoughtful of you and appreciated.
Our April meeting will be a trip to Mt. Pleasant and a visit to the Zibiwing Center. The meeting is Monday, April 7, 2014. Please be at the Soaring Eagle Casino at noon or just a little before in order to have lunch at the Legend’s diner on the East Side (left side as you enter the gaming area). Individuals who wish to car pool/caravan are asked to meet in the parking lot of the Grace a Dow Memorial Library at 11 a.m. We are happy that members from the Saginaw Chapter will be joining us. If you have any questions please call Jim Mentele who made the plans for this activity.
After eating and seeing some Native Arts we will travel by car to the Zibiwing Center(museum) located at 6650 E. Broadway, Mt. Pleasant. Phone number is 989-775-4750. The center is located on the road on the south side of the casino and a little west of the casino.
Midland Chapter President
On behalf of the chapter, I would like the thank Jim and JoAnn Mentele for hosting the September meeting. The “goodies” were wonderful and the film on Russia was interesting. Everyone in attendance enjoyed themselves.
Our next meeting will be on the second Monday, October 14, 2013. The presentation will be given by Mr. Peter Sinclair. He will be speaking on his invitation to travel with an international scientific team, the Dark Snow Project, to the Greenland Ice Sheet. Greenland is a major focus for research due to the fact that it is the northern hemisphere’s largest ice sheet. The world’s fastest moving glacier is located in Greenland and with Greenland’s ice representing potentially 22 feet of sea level rise, the studying of the Ilulisat glacier and its movements is necessary to understanding the future impacts of global climate change. The environment is for all the people of the world and hence is a legitimate concern of PTPI. Mr. Sinclair is a videographer and environmental advocate and is well known within the environmental circles. He is also a Midland resident.
With the large interest with the program, it will be a fundraiser for the organization therefore the location will be Griswold Lecture Hall on the campus of Northwood University at 7 p.m. The cost will be a charge of $5 dollars for those that wish to attend.
Coffee and cookies will be served with the conclusion of the presentation.
Please feel free to invite anyone that you feel would be interested in the program. The more in attendance, the more money we make! It is necessary, that I have a general count of how many individuals will be attending. Please call me at 835-2567 if you plan on coming to the October meeting.
Those that would like to attend but do not wish to drive, please let me know so that arrangements can be made for transportation.
Midland Chapter President,
PTPI Midland is on its winter break. Keep warm and we’ll see you back in April. If you’re traveling, be safe. If you’re hanging around the area for the winter, enjoy the many opportunities and events that Midland has to offer.
Happy holidays to all. I would like to wish you all a happy holiday season and a prosperous and joyful New Year. Thank you to Kundana Divi for a wonderful program on India and also to Jim for asking her to speak. It was great to see so many people at the meeting.
Our next meeting will be Monday, December 3, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. This is a social meeting. The meeting will be held at NADA on the campus of Northwood University. The cost will be $15 for PTPI members and $17 for nonmembers. NOTE: this increase is necessary since the club has to guarantee Northwood a count of 17 and sometimes we are unable to do that, the price increase will help offset the cost of not reaching the guaranteed number. Reservations are necessary. Please call Erika Smith at 835-8055 or me at 835-2567. Those that do not care to drive at night please let me know so that arrangements can be made to provide rides. The Saginaw chapter has been invited to join us. Hope to see you at the Christmas party! You never know what Santa might be up to. J
There will not be any meetings in January, February, and March of 2013. We will resume in April of 2013. I will send out a newsletter in March with the information for the April meeting (I do have a speaker) and the remaining meetings of 2013.
